Getib is a drug called a tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI), also known as an inhibitor of cancer growth. Kinases are proteins in the body that regulate how cells grow and divide. Geftib blocks (prevents) a protein from sending signals to cancer cells that make them grow and divide.
Getib used to treat some people with non small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). It only works for a cancer that has an abnormal form of the protein, called receptor, epidermal growth factor (EGFR). The tests are done on cancer cells from biopsy of the lung or in the previous procedure to check the level of EGFR.
